“YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON CUSTOMERS!”
I tell that to business owners just about every day in hopes they will see the big picture.
It’s usually in response to a business owner telling me “I get all my customers by word of mouth.”
That’s great, but YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON CUSTOMERS!
Word of Mouth is wonderful for getting new customers that trust your business based on the trust you’ve built in previous customers that are willing to refer your services.
But let’s look at how the Word of Mouth recommendation happens now-a-days.
John: Hey Mike, do you know a good roofer I can trust?
Mike: Yeah. Jones Roofing did a great job for us.
John: Thanks Mike.
A short while later John starts thinking about his roof again and remembers Mike referred Jones Roofing.
John picks up his phone and does a Google search for Jones Roofing, but can’t find them.
Does John call Mike and ask for the phone number for Jones Roofing? No. John looks at the three highlighted businesses with review stars and decides to call the one that looks best.
That’s what happens with today’s Word of Mouth.
The potential customer puts their trust in their friend, but when they can’t find the recommended business online they move on to another business and put their trust in the Five-Star Rating System of Google.
And they do trust the Google Reviews. According to a survey by Inc.com, 84% of people say they trust Google reviews as much as a recommendation from a friend.
Is this happening to your business?
If you don’t have a Google My Business listing it sure is.
How to Get a Google My Business Listing in Mobile AL
Getting a Google My Business listing isn’t difficult, just go to Google.com/business and fill in all of the questions. You may be able to verify your listing immediately through a text message or you may have to wait about a week to get a postcard with a code.
You will need to choose the correct business category, add your service area, add your services, add your hours, add photographs, add your website, and a few other items.
If you are lucky, your Google My Business (GMB) might rank near the top right off the bat, But if there is a bit of competition for your service, you listing could be so far down the list no one will ever see it.
You’ll need backlinks, citations and reviews to get your GMB near the top, where it can be seen by those people searching for your service. I wish I could tell you different, but backlinks, citations and reviews aren’t always easy to come by, especially backlinks.
And you don’t want just any backlink. You want backlinks, clickable links from other web pages, from websites with good Domain Authority. Backlinks from toxic, low quality domains can poison your site so much that Google will not rank you.
You could take time out of your already busy day to try to do something you really have no experience with or you can schedule an appointment with me, so that I can take care of it for you.
If I had a problem with the engine in my truck I would have my mechanic work on it. If I was to get under the hood I would spend a bunch of time and end up calling my mechanic anyway. Many of my customers have told me that is how it was with their GMB.
If you can do it great. If you need me to do it for you just schedule an appointment.
